Life as a graduate

I prepare tax computations for submissions to HMRC and I also sometimes get involved with providing tax advice. I’ve loved working with a great team of people who have different areas of expertise and are always willing to support one another. People here are never too busy – even at a very senior level. I had an international client query and called up a partner in another office, who was happy to help right away.

My manager is also really supportive and always willing to talk to me about the direction I’d like to take my career. I’m aiming to reach director level eventually, so I’ve applied for the mentorship programme to guide me along the way.

I’m part of the corporate social responsibility team in our office and have been involved with different activities, including dropping off Easter eggs to children in hospital. I love that our office culture values giving back to the community and encourages us to get involved.

I joined RSM after graduating and went straight onto the ACA pathway to become professionally accredited. Now that I'm an audit manager, I mentor our new starters through the same qualification. I oversee a team of about five auditors at any given time, ranging from fresh graduates to experienced professionals.

Over the last six years, I've had some amazing experiences. I've completed my ACA qualification, built a strong team that I'm very proud of, and secured a secondment in New Zealand. I’ve also attended a wide range of socials and made some great friends along the way.

My best advice to anyone considering a career with RSM is to be confident and back yourself. As a fairly young manager myself, I like to think I'm changing the perception of audit managers and showing that age doesn't matter if you believe in yourself.
